Veterans supporting Veterans!

A year ago Abby was an aviator in the Air Force planning for her family’s future. The next step was to transition into a new civilian role, a role that may not directly use her military operational skills and experience. This was "an exciting but also frankly a terrifying and uncertain time for our family." She was unsure whether she met the requirements for many job postings, and her confidence was further challenged when several recruiting companies referred her to roles she was overqualified for.

It took support from Still Serving Veterans , other Veterans who had successfully transitioned, and of course her husband, Nate, to instill the confidence needed to strive for a role commensurate with her skills. Abby reached out and made connections through LinkedIn with several of the supporting Veterans who guided her employment journey.

Still Serving Veterans provided networking advice as well as actual connections to roles suited for both Abby and her husband. Jobs they were truly interested in. They also received valuable interview and resume advice tailored to specific job positions. Ben and Eric, SSV Career Counselors, and fellow Veterans, worked together to provide the support needed. "This was a huge help considering the pandemic limited networking opportunities and we were both new to the world of virtual networking."

Today, both Abby and Nate have found employment at two excellent companies in Huntsville, AL, a location near family. "We both exceeded our expectations in receiving competitive salaries! We are very happy with the challenging nature of our new roles as well as the great work-life balance provided by these companies."

“We want to thank SSV, particularly Ben McQuerry and Eric Brew for their continued support through the entire transition process. They made what was a scary, unknown process a positive and hopeful one and we will always be grateful for their kindness, actionable advice, and warm words of comfort.”
